“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.”

Meet Bonnie
Psychotherapist
I have been working in the mental health field for over 20 years. I have been a registered social worker with over five years of experience with a clinical focus on adults (depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc). I also have experience working with children and adolescence with a range of challenges.
I believe that our thoughts create our beliefs, and those beliefs create our actions. These actions are either healthy or unhealthy ones that help or hinder us; mentally, physically and spiritually. I am passionate about supporting people in creating the life they want while using healthy thoughts and actions.
When I am not supporting people in a counselling role, you can find me in nature, travelling or spending time with my family and friends sharing a healthy meal.

My Approach
As a clinician my goal is to help you learn to let go of the negativity that is weighing you down and making you feel stuck. I want you to keep growing and learning and moving forward. I am dedicated on creating a respectful therapeutic relationship and aim to create a safe and non-judgemental space where you can be free to be who you are. Together we will explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and how they affect and run your life. You will learn how to be in control of your own life, to live in the moment and not have something or someone else control it for you.
My approach is client-centred, strengths based and trauma informed. I tailor my sessions to the needs of my client and draw from approaches such as Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Exposure Therapy. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is more effective than the specific approach we use. If you feel comfortable and safe with me you are more likely to step out of your comfort zone and try new things. This is where we grow.

Why Counselling?
First Session
In our first session we will explore what brings you to therapy and where we want to focus on going forward. We will see if it is a good fit for us both and then create a treatment plan together.
What can I expect from Counselling?
Life is beautiful and challenging. We live in a world that is constantly changing and we need to change with it. How can we be the best versions of ourselves? We will work together to explore healthier ways to cope, challenge and change our mindset and align our actions. All this is possible and with the right tools you can learn to navigate this world and gain control over how you show up for it.
How long with it take?
In every situation timelines can differ, but since I work from a solution-focused approach you will usually need 5 - 8 sessions.
"Bonnie has a calm and caring way about her and this is exactly what I needed in order to feel safe to take certain steps in my life. Bonnie is excellent at reframing my thoughts in a way that I can see how they are not supportive, this is priceless."

Bonnie is an excellent counsellor. Not only does she provide a safe space to share and open up but she provides amazing tools I can apply to my daily life. She asks thought provoking questions that help me think more deeply and reflect on my life and where I can make changes. One of my favourite tools she has taught me to use is box breathing. I use this often when i am feeling overwhelmed. I would highly recommend Bonnie to anyone that wants to improve their life from small to big changes. She has a heart for it all. Thank you Bonnie.
